Oracle Database is a relational database management system first released in 1979 by the company that became Oracle Corporation, founded by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner and Ed Oates, notable as one of the first commercially available databases to implement Structured Query Language (SQL). It became the dominant enterprise relational database for decades, especially in large corporate and government data centers, and it remains one of Oracle's core products alongside the company's later enterprise-applications and cloud-infrastructure businesses.
