MacBook is Apple Inc.'s line of laptop computers running its macOS operating system, tracing back to the original MacBook introduced in 2006 as the successor to the iBook and PowerBook lines, and continuing today through the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The 2020 transition to Apple's own ARM-based Apple Silicon processors, beginning with the M1 chip, was widely credited with a major jump in performance-per-watt over the Intel processors it replaced, and the line has long anchored Apple's position in the premium laptop market.
