Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a cloud-computing platform launched by Amazon starting in 2006, offering on-demand computing power, storage and a wide range of infrastructure and application services billed on a pay-as-you-go basis. It is widely credited as the platform that established the modern public-cloud-computing industry, has long been the largest cloud infrastructure provider in the world by market share, and has been one of Amazon's most profitable business segments, funding much of the rest of the company's operations.
