McKinsey & Company is an American multinational strategy and management consulting firm founded in 1926 by James O. McKinsey, an accounting professor at the University of Chicago, and headquartered in New York City. It is described as the oldest and largest of the so called MBB strategy consultancies, serving corporations, governments and other organizations worldwide. As of 2025 McKinsey employs about 38,000 people and generated 16 billion dollars in revenue in 2023, and the firm is known for its influence on corporate management practice, its selective hiring from top business schools, and the large number of alumni who have gone on to lead major corporations or hold senior government positions.
