An American automobile manufacturer founded on June 6, 1925 by Walter Chrysler out of the remains of the Maxwell Motor Company, one of the traditional Big Three of the American automotive industry alongside Ford and General Motors. In 1998 it combined with the German automaker Daimler-Benz in a stock swap billed as a merger of equals, forming DaimlerChrysler AG, and Daimler ultimately sold the Chrysler unit to Cerberus Capital Management in 2007.
