U-verse TV is an internet protocol television service that AT&T launched on June 26, 2006, originally as part of a triple play package with broadband internet and IP telephone service across 22 U.S. states. The service delivers television over IP using the Ericsson Mediaroom platform, H.264 encoding and IP multicast delivery to set-top receiver boxes. AT&T spun its video businesses into DirecTV in 2021, selling a 30 percent stake to TPG Capital while keeping 70 percent ownership in a deal that closed on August 2, 2021, after which U-verse TV was consolidated under the DirecTV brand alongside AT&T TV.
