Special K

Special K is a brand of cereal and meal bars introduced by Kellogg's in the United States in 1955, made primarily from lightly toasted rice, wheat and barley and originally marketed as a low-fat cereal that could be eaten as part of a weight-loss diet, including a Special K Challenge program that promised six pounds of weight loss in two weeks by replacing two daily meals with Special K products. The brand expanded over time into snacks and beverages, most of which have since been discontinued, and offers varieties including Original, Red Berries, Chocolatey Delight and Cinnamon Pecan. Since a 2023 corporate spinoff the brand is produced by WK Kellogg Co for North America and by Kellanova for the rest of the world, and it has faced controversies in Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada and the United States over vitamin fortification levels and ingredients.
