A Roth IRA is an individual retirement account under United States law that is generally not taxed upon distribution, provided certain conditions are met. Its principal difference from most other tax advantaged retirement plans is that rather than granting an income tax reduction for contributions, qualified withdrawals from a Roth IRA are tax free and the growth in the account is tax free as well.
