Post-it Notes are small pieces of paper with a strip of re-adherable adhesive on the back, launched by 3M in 1980 after chemist Spencer Silver developed a low-tack, reusable adhesive in 1968 and colleague Art Fry found a practical use for it as a bookmark that would not damage pages. Widely cited as a textbook example of a product invented from a failed experiment (Silver's adhesive had originally been considered too weak to be useful), it became a near-ubiquitous office and household product and one of 3M's best-known brands.
