The Honda Civic is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1972, introduced that July as a two-door fastback sedan followed two months later by a three-door hatchback, powered originally by a 1,169 cubic centimeter transverse engine with front-wheel drive. It is Honda's longest-running passenger car nameplate, sitting between the Fit or City and the Accord in the company's lineup, and more than 27 million had been sold through 2021. Early Civics were known for fuel efficiency, reliability, and low emissions, while later generations added performance variants such as the Si, SiR, and Type R, and the Civic platform also underpinned derivative models including the CR-X, CR-X del Sol, Prelude, and CR-V. It is now in its eleventh generation, produced since 2021.
