Heinz Tomato Ketchup is a condiment first sold by H. J. Heinz Company in 1876, founded by Henry J. Heinz, distinguished from earlier ketchup recipes by a formulation using ripe tomatoes and enough vinegar to preserve it without the chemical preservatives common in rival products of the era. Its distinctive octagonal glass bottle and "57 Varieties" slogan became iconic elements of American food marketing, and it remains the best-selling ketchup brand in much of the world, now owned by The Kraft Heinz Company.
