Google Search is a web search engine launched in September 1998 by Google's founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, built originally around the PageRank algorithm for ranking pages by the links pointing to them. It became by far the most used search engine in the world, and the advertising revenue it generates through Google Ads has long been the core of parent company Alphabet's business, funding the company's wider expansion into email, maps, mobile operating systems and cloud computing.
