Google Maps is a web-based and mobile mapping, navigation and local-business-discovery service launched by Google in February 2005, incorporating satellite imagery, street-level Street View photography and turn-by-turn driving, walking, cycling and transit directions. It became the most widely used digital mapping service in the world, effectively displacing dedicated in-car GPS navigation devices for most consumers and becoming a significant platform for local business visibility and reviews.
