FedEx is an overnight and expedited package delivery service founded by Frederick W. Smith, launched in 1973 based on a hub-and-spoke air-freight model Smith had outlined in a Yale University term paper. It pioneered reliable next-day parcel delivery in the United States and, alongside UPS and DHL, became one of the three dominant global express-delivery networks, integral to modern e-commerce logistics and just-in-time supply chains.
