DHL Express is an international express mail and courier service founded in San Francisco in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn (whose surnames form the company name), originally hand-carrying shipping documents by air between California and Hawaii to speed customs clearance. It grew into one of the world's largest international express delivery networks, particularly strong outside the United States, and has operated since the late 1990s and 2000s as the express-delivery division of the German logistics group Deutsche Post DHL.
