The Boeing 737 is an American narrow-body twinjet airliner produced by Boeing for short and medium-haul routes. It first flew on April 9, 1967 and entered service with Lufthansa on February 10, 1968, and has been in continuous production since 1966 across four generations, the Original, the Classic, the Next Generation, and the MAX, seating between 85 and 215 passengers depending on variant. By July 2026 more than 12,600 aircraft had been delivered against over 17,500 orders, making it the best-selling commercial jetliner in history until the competing Airbus A320 family passed it in October 2019. The 737 MAX variant was grounded worldwide from March 2019 to November 2020 following two fatal crashes.
