The Bloomberg Terminal is a subscription computer software and data system launched by Michael Bloomberg's company, Bloomberg L.P., in 1982, providing real-time financial market data, news, analytics and messaging to institutional finance professionals. Leased rather than sold outright and historically priced at tens of thousands of dollars per user per year, it became the dominant terminal platform on trading floors and in investment institutions worldwide, and its closed messaging network is itself considered a significant source of Bloomberg's enduring market position.
