In 2011 Motorola split into two independent publicly traded companies, Motorola Mobility, which made mobile phones and related devices, and Motorola Solutions, which made communications equipment for government, public safety and enterprise customers. Motorola Mobility was acquired by Google the following year and was later sold on to Lenovo in 2014, while Motorola Solutions continued as an independent company.
