Zealand Pharma A/S is a Danish biotechnology research company that designs and develops peptide based medicines, focused mainly on metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity, partnering with international pharmaceutical companies to distribute its treatments rather than marketing products directly. It originated in 1997 as Peptide Probe Technologies ApS, founded by Bjarne Due Larsen, Lars Hellerung Christiansen, Leif Helth Jensen, Dan Buxbom and Florian Schonharting, and took the name Zealand Pharma in 1998 before being restructured as a stock corporation in 1999 under CEO Eva Steiness. The company is based in Soborg near Copenhagen, has grown to more than 500 employees with a United States subsidiary established in 2018, and listed on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 2010 after an earlier unsuccessful attempt in 2005.
