Yara International ASA is a Norwegian chemical company headquartered in Oslo, founded in 1905 as Norsk Hydro to exploit Norway's hydroelectric power for producing nitrogen fertilizer using the newly invented Birkeland-Eyde process, before being spun off from Norsk Hydro as the independent company Yara in 2004. It is one of the largest producers of nitrogen fertilizer and other agricultural chemical products in the world.
