Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of motorcycles, marine products and other powered vehicles, headquartered in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture. It was founded in 1955 as a spin-off of the musical instrument maker Nippon Gakki, today known as Yamaha Corporation, under company president Genichi Kawakami, and the two companies have remained legally separate and separately listed ever since, though they still share the Yamaha name and tuning-fork emblem. Yamaha Motor is one of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers and also makes outboard boat motors, personal watercraft, all-terrain vehicles and various industrial and marine engines.
