Woori Financial Group is a Seoul headquartered banking and financial services holding company established on January 11, 2019, with roots dating to a 2001 government mandated merger of four commercial banks, Hanvit, Peace, Kwangju and Kyongnam, along with an investment bank, following the 1997 Asian financial crisis. It operates primarily through its subsidiary Woori Bank and trades on both the Korea Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. The company was once described as South Korea's largest bank, though by May 2026 it ranked as the country's fourth largest financial services provider.
