Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. is a Canadian streaming company headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, founded in 2004 originally as Silver Wheaton before renaming itself Wheaton Precious Metals in 2017 to reflect its expansion beyond silver into gold. Rather than operating mines itself, the company provides upfront financing to mining companies in exchange for the right to purchase a share of their future silver or gold production at a fixed, low price, a business model known as streaming that Wheaton helped pioneer and that has made it one of the largest companies of its kind in the world.
