Vodafone Group Plc is a British multinational telecommunications company headquartered in Newbury, England, founded in 1984 as a subsidiary of Racal Electronics under the name Racal Telecom before being spun off and renamed Vodafone in 1991. It grew through extensive international expansion into one of the largest mobile network operators in the world, though it sold its 45 percent stake in the American joint venture Verizon Wireless back to its partner Verizon Communications in 2014.
