Vodacom Group Limited is a South African mobile communications company headquartered in Midrand that provides voice, messaging, data, and converged services to more than 130 million customers across Africa, with operations spanning Egypt, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Kenya, and business services in more than 32 African countries. Founded in 1994 by Alan Knott-Craig Sr., Vodacom is 65.1 percent owned by Vodafone Group plc and is also listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange under the ticker VOD; it serves more than 45 million users in South Africa alone and holds roughly 58 percent market share across Africa with over 103 million total customers. The company reported revenue of R98.302 billion in 2021 under CEO Shameel Joosub, and in December 2025 announced plans to raise its stake in Kenya's Safaricom to 54.9 percent in a deal valued at about 2.4 billion dollars.
