Travelers Companies, Inc. is an American insurance company headquartered in New York City, providing property casualty insurance to individuals and businesses. Its predecessor, the Travelers Insurance Company, was founded in Hartford, Connecticut, in the nineteenth century and grew into one of the best-known names in American insurance. The modern company took shape through a 2004 merger of Travelers Property Casualty Corp. and The St. Paul Companies, initially named St. Paul Travelers before being renamed The Travelers Companies in 2007, and it is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, one of the small group of companies tracked by that index.
