Transener is Argentina's leading extra-high-voltage electricity transmission company, founded in 1993 out of the privatization of the state transmission enterprise and headquartered in Buenos Aires. It operates the national extra-high-voltage network of almost 8,800 kilometers, controlling about 95 percent of Argentina's high-voltage transmission infrastructure, and reaches a further 5,500 miles in Buenos Aires Province through its subsidiary Transba S.A. The company trades on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange as TRAN and is a MERVAL component, and it is controlled by Pampa Energia, which took over in 2004 from Brazil's Petrobras after the Perez Companc conglomerate's earlier control ended in 2003.
