Tesco plc

Tesco plc is a British multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer headquartered in Welwyn Garden City, England, founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen, who began by selling surplus groceries from a market stall in Hackney, London. As of 2023 it ranked as the 15th largest retailer in the world by revenue and commands roughly 28.4 percent of the United Kingdom grocery market, the largest share of any retailer there. Tesco operates around 5,040 stores across the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Slovakia and the United Kingdom, in formats ranging from large hypermarkets to small convenience stores, and its business also extends into financial services and telecommunications.
