Tenaga Nasional Berhad, widely known by its initials TNB, is Malaysia's dominant electric utility, headquartered in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, and engaged in power generation, transmission, distribution, and retail. It was established in 1990 under the Electricity Supply Successor Company Act, succeeding the former National Electricity Board following a 1988 privatization announcement by then Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. TNB serves more than 10.65 million customers across Peninsular Malaysia and, through its subsidiary Sabah Electricity, in Sabah and Labuan, while also maintaining engineering, switchgear manufacturing, and coal trading operations.
