Telia Company AB is a Swedish multinational telecommunications operator headquartered in Solna, near Stockholm, formed from the 2002 merger of Sweden's state-descended Telia and Finland's state-descended Sonera as TeliaSonera, and renamed Telia Company in 2016 following a broader corporate refocusing. The Swedish and Finnish governments each retain significant minority ownership stakes reflecting the company's origins as the two countries' national telecom monopolies. Telia is the leading or a leading operator in Sweden and Finland and has historically held substantial mobile and fixed-line operations across the Nordic and Baltic region, including Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, after divesting a number of its former Eurasian operations in the 2010s to concentrate on its core Nordic and Baltic footprint.
