Tanjug was a Serbian state news agency, established on November 5, 1943 as Yugoslavia's official news agency and headquartered in Belgrade; its name is an acronym for the Telegraphic Agency of New Yugoslavia. From 1975 through the mid-1980s it played a significant role in the Non-Aligned News Agencies Pool, training journalists and technicians across African and South Asian media organizations. Weakened by financial difficulties from 2015 onward, it officially ceased to exist in March 2021, after which a private Belgrade company acquired rights to its intellectual property and trademarks for ten years.
