Subaru Corporation

Subaru Corporation is a Japanese multinational automaker headquartered in Tokyo, known for building most of its passenger vehicles with all-wheel drive and horizontally opposed boxer engines. The company traces its roots to the Nakajima Aircraft Company, a major Japanese aircraft manufacturer during the Second World War that was broken up by the occupying Allied powers afterward, with several of its successor firms later reuniting in 1953 to form Fuji Heavy Industries. Fuji Heavy Industries adopted the Subaru brand, the Japanese word for the Pleiades star cluster, for its automobiles beginning in 1954, a name reflected in the six-star cluster of the company logo, and Fuji Heavy Industries itself was renamed Subaru Corporation in 2017 to match the brand under which it had long sold its cars.
