Southern Copper Corporation is a mining company headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, and one of the world's largest integrated copper producers, extracting and processing copper alongside molybdenum, zinc, and silver. It was founded in 1952 as a joint venture between the American mining companies ASARCO and Newmont, began copper mining operations in 1960, and became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange after a 1996 corporate reorganization. Southern Copper's principal mines and smelting and refining facilities are located in Peru, including the Toquepala and Cuajone mines, and in Mexico, including the Buenavista and La Caridad mines, and the company reported revenue exceeding 11 billion dollars in 2024. Grupo Mexico, the Mexican mining and infrastructure conglomerate, controls the large majority of Southern Copper's shares.
