SK Hynix Inc. is a South Korean semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Icheon, South Korea, and one of the world's largest producers of memory chips. It was founded in 1983 as Hyundai Electronics by Chung Ju-yung, the founder of Hyundai Group, reflecting the growing importance of electronics to that broader industrial group before the semiconductor business later separated into its own company under the SK Group. SK Hynix manufactures dynamic random-access memory chips, flash memory chips, solid-state drives, and image sensors, and it ranks among the so-called Big Three memory manufacturers alongside Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology, both already live in this atlas. As of mid-2025 SK Hynix controlled roughly 38 percent of the global DRAM market.
