Shein is a global e-commerce platform specializing in fast fashion, founded in October 2008 in Nanjing, China under the name ZZKKO by entrepreneur Chris Xu. The company primarily sells womens clothing while also offering mens apparel, childrens wear, accessories, cosmetics, shoes and bags, and is now headquartered in Singapore after relocating from China in 2022. Shein initially operated similarly to a drop-shipping business, sourcing products from wholesalers in Guangzhou, before transforming into a fully integrated retailer with its own supply chain of more than 3,000 suppliers beginning in 2012. The company grew to become the largest fashion retailer in the world as of 2022, with particular popularity among younger Millennial and Generation Z consumers due to its low prices.
