Saskatchewan Wheat Pool

The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool was a grain handling, agri-food processing and marketing company headquartered in Regina, Saskatchewan, established as a farmer cooperative in 1923 before transitioning to a publicly traded corporation during the 1990s. It grew into the largest agricultural grain handling operation in Saskatchewan, at its height operating 276 retail outlets and more than 100 grain handling and marketing centres, with about 4,000 employees, and did business in Manitoba and Alberta under the AgPro name. In 2007 it acquired the Winnipeg based competitor Agricore United, after which the Pool name was discontinued in favor of Viterra, the name under which the merged company operated until Glencore International acquired it in 2013.
