Sanofi is a French multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Paris, formed through a series of mergers, most notably Sanofi-Synthelabo's 2004 acquisition of Aventis (itself formed from the earlier German and French firms Hoechst and Rhone-Poulenc) to create Sanofi-Aventis, later shortened to Sanofi. It is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, with major businesses spanning vaccines through its Sanofi Pasteur division, diabetes care and treatments for rare diseases.
