SalMar ASA is a Norwegian aquaculture company and one of the world's leading producers of farmed salmon, carrying out marine phase farming along with broodfish and smolt production, processing and sales. It holds 100 licenses to produce Atlantic salmon in Norway, located in Trondelag and Nordmore and, through its subsidiary Senja Sjofarm AS, in Troms, and it holds a 50 percent stake in Norskott Havbruk, which runs Scottish Sea Farms. Headquartered in Froya municipality, SalMar was established in 1991 and went public on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2007; Gustav Magnar Witzoe, the founder's son, is its principal shareholder. The company distributes farmed salmon to Asia, North America, Russia and Norway and employs about 1,500 people.
