REGNUM is a Russian nationwide online news service distributing news from Russia and abroad, founded on 22 July 2002 by Boris Sorkin and Modest Kolerov as part of a family of agencies that had begun operating in 1999. Headquartered in Moscow, it runs regional bureaus across Russia and neighbouring countries in Europe, Central Asia and the South Caucasus with a staff of roughly 400 correspondents, and it has faced international scrutiny over its editorial independence and alleged ties to Russian state interests.
