Raiffeisen Switzerland is a Swiss banking cooperative headquartered in St. Gallen, tracing to the first Swiss Raiffeisen bank founded by parish priest Johann Traber in Bichelsee in 1899 and formally unified in 1902 by ten institutions. It operates as a cooperative of cooperatives, a union of 219 legally independent member banks running roughly 896 branch offices and serving about 3.65 million clients. Following UBS's acquisition of Credit Suisse it became the second-largest banking group in Switzerland by client assets under management.
