Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) is a major Austrian bank based in Vienna that serves as both the domestic hub and the international holding company of the decentralized Raiffeisen Banking Group. Established in 2010 as a subsidiary of Raiffeisen Zentralbank, RBI absorbed its parent in a reverse takeover completed in March 2017 and is listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange, with regional Raiffeisen banks holding a controlling 61.17 percent of its equity through a shareholders agreement. The bank provides retail and corporate banking across Austria, Central Europe and Eastern Europe through roughly 3,000 branches serving more than 14 million customers, and as a Significant Institution it is supervised directly by the European Central Bank. RBI also maintains substantial operations in Russia and Belarus, and remained the largest Western bank still present in Russia after most competitors withdrew following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
