Puma SE is a German athletic apparel and footwear corporation headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassler after he split from the shoe company he had run with his brother Adolf, who went on to found the rival firm Adidas in the same town. Puma has grown into the third-largest sportswear manufacturer in the world, selling footwear, apparel and accessories across running, football, motorsport and lifestyle categories, and it has built long-running sponsorship relationships with numerous prominent football clubs and athletes. The rivalry between Puma and Adidas, both still headquartered in Herzogenaurach, has shaped the town's identity for decades.
