Pret A Manger is a British multinational fast casual chain of sandwich shops, first opened in London in 1983 and relaunched under its present form in 1986 by Sinclair Beecham and Julian Metcalfe, taking its name from the French phrase for ready to wear, adapted to mean ready to eat. Headquartered in London, the chain operates more than 700 stores across 19 countries, with roughly two thirds of its outlets in the United Kingdom, and it has been owned by JAB Holding Company since 2018. Pret also runs the Pret Foundation, a charitable arm that has distributed several million pounds to organizations addressing homelessness and hunger in the United Kingdom.
