Popeyes

Popeyes, formally Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, is an American multinational fast food chain specializing in Southern style fried chicken, founded by Al Copeland in 1972 near New Orleans under the original name Chicken on the Run, and named after the detective character Popeye Doyle from the 1971 film The French Connection rather than the cartoon sailor. The chain, headquartered between Miami and Toronto, operates roughly 5,400 restaurants across more than 50 countries, with about 98 percent run by franchisees, and it was acquired by Restaurant Brands International in 2017 for 1.8 billion dollars. Popeyes drew nationwide attention in August 2019 when a newly launched chicken sandwich sold out across the chain within two weeks.
