Philip Morris International Inc. is a multinational tobacco company that sells Marlboro and other cigarette brands outside the United States, spun off from Altria Group as an independent company in 2008 so that Altria could keep the separate US tobacco business apart from Philip Morris International's international operations. In recent years the company has promoted so-called smoke-free products, including its IQOS heated-tobacco system, as part of a stated shift away from combustible cigarettes, and it acquired the Swedish nicotine-pouch maker Swedish Match in 2022.
