Panera Bread is an American bakery cafe fast casual restaurant chain that grew out of the St. Louis Bread Company, established in 1987 by Ken and Linda Rosenthal and rebranded as Panera Bread in 1997 under Louis Kane and Ronald Shaich. Headquartered in Fenton, Missouri, the chain operates more than 2,000 locations across the United States and Canada, serving pastries, sandwiches, salads and soups, and it has been owned by JAB Holding Company since a 7.5 billion dollar acquisition in 2017. Panera was also known for a period as the largest provider of free Wi-Fi hotspots in the United States.
