Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. is an American video game developer based in Irvine, California, founded in June 2003 by former Black Isle Studios employees Feargus Urquhart, Chris Avellone, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan and Chris Jones shortly before Black Isle's closure. Early projects were sequels to licensed properties, including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2, and the studio later produced Fallout: New Vegas, Dungeon Siege III and South Park: The Stick of Truth. After a wave of canceled projects brought a financial crisis in 2012, Obsidian crowdfunded Pillars of Eternity, which succeeded and allowed the studio to shift toward original intellectual property including The Outer Worlds; it was acquired by Microsoft in November 2018 and is now part of Xbox Game Studios.
