Novo Nordisk A/S is a Danish pharmaceutical company headquartered in Bagsvaerd, formed by the 1989 merger of two Danish insulin producers, Nordisk Insulinlaboratorium and Novo Terapeutisk Laboratorium, both founded in the 1920s not long after the discovery of insulin. It is one of the world's largest producers of diabetes-care medication and became one of Europe's most valuable companies in the 2020s on the strength of its GLP-1 drugs semaglutide, sold as Ozempic and Wegovy.
