Nokia Corporation

Nokia Corporation is a Finnish telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company headquartered in Espoo, in the Helsinki metropolitan area. It traces its origins to 1865, when mining engineer Fredrik Idestam established a pulp mill on the Tammerkoski rapids near Tampere, then part of the Russian Empire's Grand Duchy of Finland, and the company grew over the following century through mergers into a diversified industrial conglomerate before concentrating on telecommunications. Nokia became the world's largest vendor of mobile phones and smartphones for roughly a decade beginning in 1998, before a sharp decline in the late 2000s led the company to sell its mobile phone division to Microsoft in 2014. Nokia today focuses on large-scale telecommunications network infrastructure, technology development, and patent licensing.
