Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) is a Japanese telecommunications company headquartered in Tokyo, created in 1985 when the state-owned Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation, itself established in 1952, was privatized. The Japanese government retains a significant ownership stake, and NTT operates as a holding company over a group of subsidiaries providing telecommunications, data and IT services, ranking among the largest telecommunications companies in the world.
